TeraFlex Dana 30/44 HD Ball Joints
When TeraFlex developed our lifetime-guaranteed adjustable HD Ball Joints for the JK Wrangler/Unlimited (as well as a version for the TJ Wrangler/Unlimited, XJ Cherokee, and WJ Grand Cherokee style axles) that didn’t mean we would stop there. Develop a great idea, then improve on it. That’s pretty much how we roll at TeraFlex. Let’s look at some of our ball joint improvements.
Probably the most noticeable improvement is the Easy-Access Grease Ports that even the boys at Jiffy Lube will be able to see, access, and even lube. That’s huge… We still use our anticorrosion magnesium phosphate coating and offer the joint in both a knurled, like we see here and standard fit applications. Remember we only want to use a knurled joint in the event of a loose ball joint fit.
The way the JK Wrangler/Unlimited HD Ball Joints mount, all the weight on the front of the Jeep is carried by the Lower Ball Joints. By moving the adjustment collar to the bottom, it frees up the adjusting collar and the joint is now adjustable with the Jeep sitting on the ground. We also increased the clearance on the top of the HD Ball Joint so that even later model JK models can use this new design without modifications. The U-joints and axle flanges clear easily.
If adjustability is good, infinite adjustability is awesome. Loosen 3 set screws and use the provided spanner wrench to adjust the Ball Joints as needed. It’s quick and clean.
Internally, we added a larger hard alloy tool steel wear plate to provide even better wear resistance and to allow for increased grease flow. You probably noticed the lack of a grease boot: a lip seal is used to prevent any contamination from coming in, and yet still allows for the old grease to be pushed out and replaced with fresh lubrication.
The upper Ball Joints still use extremely wear-resistant sintered metal bushings. They will easily control the extra weight and loads we throw at our Jeeps. Now don’t panic when the stud freely moves in and out; it’s designed that way. Its job is to control lateral movement; vertical is controlled by the Lower Ball Joint.
