Factory bump stops combined with bump stop extensions accomplish two things. First, they limit the upward movement of the axle which in turn keeps a larger than stock tire from rubbing the fender. Second, they allow for a longer shock. The bump stop extensions will hit and bottom out, meaning it will experience a sudden stop of movement due to reaching the physical limits of travel before the longer shock bottoms out. Without the correct bump stop extension, the longer shock would bottom out first, which could lead to shock failure.
TeraFlex SpeedBumps provide the same function as the bump stop extensions. They limit upward movement.
