Pricing for the available turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 with eTorque technology has leaked as part of a dealer ordering form, according to our friends over at JL Wrangler Forums.

The optional engine is an additional $1,000 over the cost of the base 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. Of course, the new turbo 2.0-liter is only available with the $2,000 8-speed automatic.

In other words, the new turbo 2.0-liter I-4 and 8-speed auto will cost $1,000 more than the Pentastar engine when mated to the available 8-speed auto or $3,000 more than the Pentastar and 6-speed manual combo.

Power for the new turbo 2.0-liter with eTorque technology is rated 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque that’s 15 hp less, but 35 lb-ft more than the Pentastar V-6. Although fuel economy figures haven’t been released, the new engine is expected to deliver better numbers than the 3.6-liter / 8-speed combo, which is EPA-rated 18/23/20 mpg city/highway/combined — an improvement of 2/3/2 mpg over the JK Wrangler Unlimited.

The new engine features direct injection combined with a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger featuring an electronically actuated wastegate for better response and performance, while an intercooler lowers the intake air temperature. The eTorque hybrid system features auto Engine Stop / Start (ESS), electric power assist, extended fuel shut-off, transmission shift management, intelligent battery charging, and regenerative braking.

Although some of you might be saddened that the new turbo engine won’t be offered with a manual transmission, we’ve been impressed with the performance improvements of the 8-speed automatic in our new JL Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, Sahara, and Sport models compared to the 5-speed auto in the JK models.

TeraFlex can’t wait to get our hands on an all-new JL with the new turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 with eTorque technology.

Be sure to check back for our impressions of the new engine once we get our hands on one!
