Fuel economy ratings for the all-new turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 with eTorque technology available in the 2018 JL Wrangler/Unlimited has been quietly revealed on the EPA’s official website.

The turbo-hybrid engine in the 2-door JL Wrangler is EPA-rated 23/25/24 mpg city/highway/combined, while the 4-door JL Wrangler Unlimited is EPA-rated 22/24/22 mpg. In comparison, those ratings are an improvement over the JL models’ 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 8-speed auto combo, which is rated 18/23/20 mpg in both body styles, which gives the new 2.0-liter engine a 4–5/1–2/2–4 mpg advantage.

The new 2.0-liter turbo-hybrid I-4 engine is a $1,000 option over the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. Power for the new turbo 2.0-liter with eTorque technology is rated 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque that’s 15 hp less, but 35 lb-ft more than the Pentastar V-6. That low-end torque will definitely be felt during off-road driving.

We should also mention that the JL Wrangler/Unlimited with the 3.6-liter V6 and 8-speed combo provides better fuel economy than JK models with the 3.6-liter and 5-speed combo. The JK Wrangler/Unlimited with 3.6-liter and 5-speed auto is EPA-rated 17/21/18 mpg and 16/20/18 mpg, respectively. That gives the new JL with the 3.6-liter a 1–2/2–3/2 mpg advantage over the JK with the 3.6-liter.

Interestingly, the EPA’s website hid the new turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 with eTorque technology engine’s fuel economy ratings under the “2018 Jeep Wrangler 4WD” and “2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4WD” tabs along with the JK Wrangler/Unlimited models’ 3.6-liter V-6 and 5-speed auto combo as well as the 3.6-liter and 6-speed manual combo. The JL 3.6-liter and 8-speed auto combo and 3.6-liter and 6-speed manual combo are listed under the “2018 Jeep New Wrangler 4WD” and “2018 Jeep New Wrangler Unlimited 4WD” tabs.
